The singer and motivational speaker is celebrating two decades of being clean following a “rock star” past.

KABELO: ‘IF I CAN DO IT, SO CAN YOU’

Taking to Instagram, Kabelo marked his twentieth anniversary of being sober.

He shared: Today 20 years ago, a ride like no other began. This journey has made me more realistic, I now believe in miracles. Thank you, Jesus. If I can do it, you can do it too”.

In 2002, Kabelo decided to kick his wild partying ways by going to rehab. And instead, the TKZee singer focused on fitness, motivational speaking, and dedicating his life to his family

He also penned a memoir called I Ran For My Life: My Story, detailing his dark past.

In an interview on Podcast and Chill with MacG, Kabelo revealed how he once blew R2 million on drugs. The star – nicknamed “Bouga Luv” claimed he used “four or five grams a day”.

He shared: “It messes you up financially.

“I got into lots of trouble man and I thank God that it didn’t become like an Oscar Pistorious or a Jub Jub piece where people lost their lives you know what I’m saying?”.

LEBO M IS ‘BLESSED AND HAPPY’

Like Kabelo, Lebo M is also celebrating a milestone in his sobriety. The famous playwright and composer – whose work includes the soundtrack of Disney’s The Lion King – has been sober for 17 years.

Taking to Twitter, Lebo M celebrated his achievement.

Posting a picture of himself, Lebo thanked his fans for their encouragement and support. He shared: “My gratitude to you for all your generosity of spirit and support on my 17 years of sobriety. I am eternally grateful”.

He added: “This young man is 17 years sober, alcohol-free today. Blessed and happy”.

Also speaking on Podcast and Chill in July, Lebo M revealed one of the main motivations for him to become sober was the death of his son Thembalethu.

The 14-month-old baby – son of Lebo and second wife Nandi Ndlovu – tragically died after drowning in a swimming pool of their then Dainfern home.

The incident led Lebo M to spiral into a deep depression and seek solace in alcohol.
