New information has surfaced regarding the untimely demise of Luke Fleurs, the talented defender for Kaizer Chiefs. Fleurs fell victim to a fatal shooting during a thwarted hijacking.

On the evening of April 3rd, tragedy struck at a petrol station in Florida, Johannesburg. Luke Fleurs, behind the wheel of his red Golf 8 GTI, was ambushed by assailants while waiting for service.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo, the assailants, travelling in a white BMW 1 Series, accosted Fleurs, demanding possession of his vehicle.

“The victim, driving a red VW Golf 8 GTI, had stopped at the petrol station on 14th Avenue, corner Hendrik Potgieter. While awaiting assistance from the petrol attendant, he was confronted by two armed individuals in a white BMW 1 Series,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo.

As the confrontation escalated, tragedy unfolded. The attackers, without hesitation, fired a fatal shot at Fleurs, seizing his car before fleeing the scene.

Immediate Response

Fleurs was swiftly transported to the nearest medical facility following the attack. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries upon arrival.

Pursuit of Justice

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has initiated a manhunt for the perpetrators responsible for the murder of the esteemed footballer. Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo disclosed that while no arrests have been made, the authorities are actively pursuing leads.

“A case of murder and car hijacking has been filed for investigation, and the search for the suspects is ongoing. We urge anyone with pertinent information to come forward and aid in the apprehension of these criminals,” stated Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo.
