Casemiro, one of the toughest and most famous defensive midfielders in the English Premier League (EPL), known by his full name as Carlos Henrique Casimiro, is preparing to say “goodbye” to his team, Manchester United.
The 34-year-old Brazilian will leave the club this summer when his contract expires. This means he will become a “free agent,” and he has already been linked with several teams, primarily in Major League Soccer (MLS) and the Saudi Pro League.
Casemiro’s story began far away in Brazil. As a young boy, he played for São Paulo FC, where his talent for protecting the defense was clear from the start.
He was so effective at winning the ball that he was signed by the Spanish giants, Real Madrid. During his time in Spain, Casemiro won the UEFA Champions League five times, the most prestigious trophy in European club football. Because of his rugged style of play, fans often compare his tough tackling to that of the former Kaizer Chiefs and Warriors defensive legend, Willard Katsande.
When he joined Manchester United in 2022, Casemiro was looking for a new challenge. Even though he had already won every major trophy in Spain, he famously told his manager, “Tell them I’ll fix it!” before arriving at Old Trafford.
He moved to England and quickly became a fan favorite because he played with immense heart and passion. During his time in the famous red jersey, he played a key role in helping the team win both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.
Leaving a club as massive as Manchester United is never easy, and Casemiro admits the departure will be deeply emotional. Many supporters have even pleaded with him to stay for one more year to help the team through its current transition.
Reflecting on his final days at the club, Casemiro said:
“I hope I don’t CRY on the last day. My wife already cried the other day when the fans asked me to stay one more year. I just want to enjoy all these moments, and I’ll remain a United supporter for the rest of my LIFE.”
Even though he is moving on perhaps to play in the United States or another exciting league Casemiro will always be remembered as a true warrior at Old Trafford.
