South Africa’s Proteas are not only dominating on the field at the T20 World Cup, but they’re also raking in serious prize money after their emphatic win over India.
Proteas End India’s Streak
India, the world’s top-ranked T20 side, entered their Super Eights clash against South Africa riding a 12-match winning streak. That run came to a dramatic halt as the Proteas handed them a heavy defeat — India’s second-biggest loss in T20 history — by a margin of 76 runs.
Big Money for Big Wins
According to ICC regulations, every victory at the T20 World Cup comes with a $31,194 bonus. For South Africa, that translates to roughly R500,000 per win. Their triumph over India marked their fifth consecutive victory, pushing their total earnings to around R2.5 million so far.
Their unbeaten run includes wins over Canada, Afghanistan, New Zealand, the UAE, and now India. With the semi-finals looming, the stakes — and the prize pool — are set to rise significantly.
Semi-Final Spot Within Reach
The Super Eights stage is split into two groups of four, with the top two from each group advancing to the semi-finals. South Africa’s next fixtures are against the West Indies on Thursday, 26 February, and Zimbabwe on Sunday, 1 March. Both matches begin at 11:30 (SA time).
Given their current form and impressive net run rate (+3.800), a single victory from these two games should be enough to secure a semi-final berth. Still, coach Shukri Conrad and captain Aiden Markram will be aiming for a clean sweep to maintain momentum heading into the knockout rounds.
