The remains of the former Warriors, Chicken Inn, and Orlando Pirates striker Tendai “Fire” Ndoro returned from South Africa on a somber Saturday for his burial in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, scheduled for the subsequent Sunday. The atmosphere was heavy with grief as family, friends, and members of the football community congregated at his family residence in Nketa 8, Bulawayo.
Among the mourners was his twin brother, Takudzwa, who stood by the family during this trying time. Ndoro’s body was respectfully transported in a hearse to the Bulawayo Amphitheatre, where a memorial service was held to honor his life before proceeding to his final resting place at West Park Cemetery.
Ndoro, who was a notable player for Orlando Pirates between 2015 and 2017, left behind a legacy that extends beyond his impressive football achievements. His dedication not only to the sport but also to his family is fondly remembered. His cousin, Willington Patsika, spoke warmly of Ndoro, highlighting his humility and respectful nature, traits that endeared him to many. The family took the opportunity to address some of the negative speculation surrounding Ndoro’s later years, stressing his unwavering commitment as a provider for his loved ones.
His sister Lorraine provided an emotional acknowledgment of the struggles he faced and his efforts to mend any past mistakes. She expressed her frustration over the absence of his memorabilia within the family, which could have served as cherished reminders of his vibrant life. Cousin Frank Madhomu reminisced about Ndoro’s early years, recalling his deep-rooted love for football—a passion that was passed down from his father and ultimately defined his career.
Friends like Francis Mahlaba and Melissa Laung shared heartfelt memories of Ndoro’s generosity and his profound love for music, which often brought joy to those around him. His daughter, Laiza, offered a poignant tribute to her father’s affectionate nature, remembering his invaluable lessons on love and the importance of sharing. Through these shared memories and tributes, Tendai Ndoro’s legacy as a beloved footballer and a cherished family member continues to resonate with those who knew him.
