Monnapule Saleng’s potential move to Al Ahly has been a complex and drawn-out saga. Al Ahly, the Egyptian club, expressed a strong interest in signing Saleng, a talented winger from Orlando Pirates. Al Ahly still finalising the sale of Percy Tau. However, Tau’s transfer to Qatar was delayed, which in turn held up Saleng’s move to Al Ahly.

During this period, there was a lack of clear communication between Orlando Pirates and Saleng. Pirates didn’t inform Saleng about the reasons behind the stalled transfer, leading to frustration and a breakdown in their relationship. Saleng’s dissatisfaction affected his performance and attendance at training sessions. He hasn’t played a competitive match for Orlando Pirates since December 7, 2024, and his form has dipped since his stellar 2022-2023 season.
