Gomora star MaSonto Connie Chiume’s speech at the SAFTA awards impresses Mzansi. Connie Chiume won a Lifetime Achievement Award at the SAFTA (The South African Film & Television Awards).
The award is a recognition for her 45 years of dedicated service to the South African television industry and broader global film industry.
Receiving a notable mention from the Honourable Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Nathi Mthetwa, Connie Chiume joins an illustrious list of previous Lifetime Achievers, including Thoko Ntshiga, Thembi Mtshali and Lydia Mokgokoloshi.
Her speech after winning the award leaves Mzansi labelling her as one of the most humble legendary actresses in the country.

In her speech, Connie Chiume thanked the Gomora production team for giving her an opportunity to showcase her unequalled acting skills. She also thanked everyone who made her the star she is today.
Chiume’s speech was emotional, and after delivering her speech, the audience gave her a standing ovation as they were in approval of her eloquent speech.
Her three children accompanied Connie Chiume to the SAFTA awards ceremony. Connie also used the SAFTAs as a platform to show off her kids to the world. The actress is a proud mother of four children Tumi Chiume, Nongelo Chiume, Nothando Chiume Mabuza and the other one that was absent at the SAFTA.
She was wearing a long purple dress glorified by her grey braids. Her outfit highlighted her beauty, and she looked youthful and dynamic, thanks to her designer.

Connie Chiume was the only Gomora cast member who walked away with an award at the SAFTA awards. Not only did she win a Lifetime Achievement award, but she also represented Gomora, her co-stars came to her Instagram and thanked her for representing them well.

She started acting in the 19090’s and her road to fame wasn’t rosy, but she paved the way for herself in the acting industry. Connie’s phenomenal acting dexterities have earned her fame as much as they have attracted several accolades. In 2009, Connie’s role as Stella Moloi on SABC1 landed her the Golden Horn award.

She also received the Best Supporting Actress in a Drama award during the third South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs). In 2000, her spectacular appearance on SABC1 drama Soul City earned Connie the Avanti award for Best Actress in a Drama Series.
