‘I knows all the official languages, except Afrikaans’ says etvScandal’s Mdala
Actor James Sithole, who plays Mdala in e.tv’s soapie ‘Scandal!’ is studying sign language, Swahili and knows all the official languages.
The Scandal! actor James Sithole, who is half Tsonga and half Venda reveal to Sunday World that he spoke Sepedi in his household as his family couldn’t choose either of the languages.
“I joined the youth development group as an athlete. I wanted to run, doing distances like the 100 and 200 metres and it happened one day our athletics instructor was not there, so I went to the acting and music class. That is when I fell in love with acting. I immediately knew that’s where I wanted to be.”
The actor, who plays the least favourite character Mdala in the e.tv soapie adds that he studied language practice as he wanted to be a translator at some point in his life.
“I did language practice because I wanted to be an entrepreneur, it was like something I could fall back on. I used to interpret at church, so that’s the reason I wanted to learn to speak many languages. I can safely say I know all the official languages excluding Afrikaans, and I am currently learning Swahili and sign language. “
Speaking to TimesLIVE, in December 2021 the actor James Sithole revealed it was a dream come true for him to join the cast of e.tv’s Scandal! As Mdala.
“I had hoped to see myself in one of the biggest shows on e.tv. I have watched Scandal! since the beginning and my favourite storyline was the one of Mangi doing drugs.
I looked up to Sello Maake-ka Ncube and I wanted to be part of the soap and be his other son and fix the life of the brother in the drug crisis.”
“I think people will love to hate him because of his charm and his looks. He’s able to lure people in and seal business deals without anyone questioning anything.
“I sometimes get away with a lot of trouble because of my innocent look.
The same goes for Mdala and I love his style and the fact that he is way too calculative and doesn’t spill blood like any other thug we know. He deals with the psychology of mankind until one gives in.”
