Gogo Skhotheni, known by her birth name Patricia Tumi Motsoeneng, has consistently been transparent about her journeys and encounters within the spiritual realm. Her openness has garnered her a significant following, both as a celebrity sangoma and a social media influencer. Recently, however, she made a startling revelation that has left many of her followers and onlookers in disbelief.
In a candid disclosure, she spoke about an experience where she was compelled to assist a hitman, a man who had taken multiple lives. This particular story has become a lightning rod for intense discussions, with reactions ranging from admiration to skepticism. Some individuals commend her for remaining steadfast in her spiritual vocation, suggesting that her actions exemplify dedication to her spiritual path, regardless of the circumstances. They argue that her work, though controversial, highlights the complexities and responsibilities inherent in her role as a sangoma.
A Hitman in Need of Spiritual Protection
Recalling her first encounter with such a client, Gogo Skhotheni explained that she was still an unknown healer at the time. She worked from her mkhukhu (a small shack) in eMbalenhle, Mpumalanga, with two initiates under her guidance.

She was taken aback when, early one morning, a man from Johannesburg arrived at her doorstep seeking help.
“I had a client from Joburg while I was still staying in eMbalenhle. He arrived at 6 in the morning and said, ‘Gogo, I am inkabi (hitman). My inyanga is dead.’ I wasn’t famous at the time. Nobody knew me,” she shared in a video circulating on social media.
The hitman explained that while his job put food on the table, he lived in fear that the spirits of his victims would return to haunt him. He needed protection, and with his previous inyanga (traditional healer) deceased, he turned to Gogo Skhotheni as his last hope.
Seeking Guidance from Her Ancestors
Faced with a moral dilemma, Gogo Skhotheni decided to consult her ancestors before taking any action. She threw her bones, a traditional divination practice, to receive guidance on how to handle the situation.

“It was my first time encountering such a person, and I threw bones to consult my ancestors. The guy was happy that I’d help him to consult in the dark space,” she said.
While she did not elaborate on the exact rituals performed or whether she ultimately provided him with the protection he sought, her revelation has sparked widespread discussion about the role of traditional healers in society.
Many believe that spiritual healers should not judge their clients, as their work is to provide guidance and solutions based on their ancestral calling. Others, however, argue that helping individuals involved in criminal activities raises serious ethical questions.
A Journey Filled with Challenges and Personal Loss
Gogo Skhotheni’s journey in the spiritual realm has not been easy. She has encountered many unsettling experiences, but perhaps the most heartbreaking challenge she has faced was the loss of her three-year-old son, Monde Junior, in September 2024.
Losing a child is one of the most painful experiences any parent can go through, and for Gogo Skhotheni, it was a devastating moment that tested her strength and faith. While she has not spoken extensively about how she is coping with the tragedy, it is clear that her spiritual work remains an essential part of her healing process.

A Life of Controversy and Courage
Throughout her career, Gogo Skhotheni has remained unapologetically true to her beliefs. Whether discussing polygamy, traditional rituals, or her encounters with clients from all walks of life, she continues to be a polarizing figure in South Africa’s spiritual and social landscape.
Her latest revelation has once again placed her at the center of controversy. While some admire her courage in sharing such an experience, others question the role of traditional healers in dealing with individuals involved in criminal activities.
Regardless of the debate, one thing remains certain—Gogo Skhotheni’s journey in the spiritual world is far from ordinary. And as she continues to navigate the complexities of her calling, her story will no doubt continue to captivate and challenge many.
Conversely, others raise significant concerns about the ethical and moral dimensions of her work. They question the implications of assisting someone with such a violent and destructive past, pondering whether there are boundaries that should not be crossed, even in spiritual practices. These debates are not without precedent; they touch on broader societal questions about forgiveness, redemption, and the limits of empathy.
Gogo Skhotheni’s story is a powerful reminder of the challenges faced by those who navigate the spiritual world, particularly when their paths intersect with those who have led troubled lives. Her narrative has not only sparked dialogue about the nature of her calling but also about the broader role of spiritual practitioners in contemporary society. As such discussions continue, her revelation serves as a testament to the multifaceted and often contentious nature of spiritual work.
