Desserts are often as beautiful as they are delicious and a Swiss roll is a simple example of this. However, somebody turned the usually vanilla and jam-filled cake roll into a chocolate and cream delicacy.
This Swiss log cake has its origins in the USA, but we enjoy it just as much. The rich chocolate cake is still light and moist at the same time and filled with delicious cream instead of jam.
Chocolate Swiss roll tips
As often with eggs, you don’t want to mix them into the batter too quickly, so take the time and the results will show. When rolling the cake up, take care not to break it. One way to help do this right is to roll it while still warm, but the cream will deflate.
Adding corn starch to the whipped cream so that it stays in tact. Present with a generous dusting of flour and serve a big slice with a cup of tea or coffee.
