AKA makes air cooler about Reebok payment deal

South African hip hop artist AKA has publically cleared the air amidst the confusion surrounding his payment for the Reebok deal.

South African hip hop artist AKA has publically cleared the air amidst the confusion surrounding his payment for the Reebok deal.

This is after a fan shared a screenshot from 2020 where AKA alleged he was not paid “a single cent” for the deal with the popular sports brand.

“Can you believe they didn’t pay me a single cent for this? Not one cent.” AKA wrote on a tweet from a fan showcasing a pair of the 600 AKA custom-made sneakers.

This raised a lot of questions from the rapper’s fans who accused the sports brand of using the rapper’s name without compensating him accordingly.

However, the musician recently revealed in a tweet that he was paid R120k monthly for close to two years for the duration of the deal.

“I said I didn’t get a cent from the sneaker, not from the deal. I was paid 120k every month for nearly two years I think … hope that clears it up for you.” he wrote.

Fans quickly did the Maths and alleged that the rapper would have received close to R3 million for the deal – a far cry from his initial claims.

Some fans claimed AKA was contradicting his initial statement while some urged the sneaker deal was separate from the deal with the sporting brand deal itself.
